COUNTY ABWA MEETING MINUTES
October 4, 2007
The following topics were discussed:
1) Susan reported
that we now have $541.63 in our treasury.
2) We discussed the 3 committees to be formed that will need to be formed:
- A committee who secures speakers for our meetings (and that committee will formulate parameters for future speakers/topics);
- A publicity/membership committee; and
- A scholarship committee (Julie & Kris).
Due to the limited number of members at this meeting, we agreed to table the discussion of appointing members to the speaker committee and the publicity/membership committee until our next meeting.
3) Jackie announced that we will be offering Membership Incentives for anyone that brings in three new members they will receive a $25 gift card. National ABWA is also offering incentive gifts to those who bring in new members; however that incentive program ends on October 31, 2007.
4) We discussed our first fundraising event: An Easter Parade/ Egg Hunt at Dog Park!
- Jackie attended the El Cajon Animal Shelter board meeting and they agreed to look into the possibility of joining our event.
- Debbie Wiese and Susan volunteered to be the co-chairs of this event, and they will announce the need for various committees as the planning progresses.
- Debbie Wiese also had a great idea for our potential scholarship recipient, and she will follow up with additional information at our next meeting.
5) Jackie received a call from Women In Business. They are holding a 2-hour event at the Bonita Library on November 7. ABWA was invited to man a table at the event. The cost is $25. Jackie will likely be attending this event for her business. If Jackie is able to have one of her consultants help her at this event, she will also have an ABWA table.
6) We also discussed the importance of showing up and starting our meetings on time. Otherwise, we will lose our room at CoCo’s. Please arrive at 10:30 if you want to network, but no later than 11:00 am, as our future meeting will begin promptly at 11:00.
7) Jan Harwig, from the League of Women Voters gave a very informative talk on the history and purpose of The League. They meet every 3rd Wednesday of the month at the El Cajon library at 11:00 am.
8) Our member speaker was Julie Edwards
9) The next board meeting date has been changed. It will be held on Friday, October 12th at 9:00 am at Bistro D’vine.
Our next chapter meeting is on November 1, 2007.
